The Vein Center is one of South Carolina’s recognized leaders in Vein Care, and Targeted Endovenous Therapy, the ClosureFast™ procedure. This minimally invasive proven technology has revolutionized the treatment of varicose veins and venous insufficiency. Understanding immediately the impact this minimally invasive procedure would have on patients who were affected by varicose veins and venous insufficiency, Dr. Wieters performed the first radiofrequency ablation procedure (VNUS Closure™) in South Carolina in 2001.
As a General and Vascular Surgeon, specializing in Phlebology (the branch of medicine specializing in venous disease), Dr. Wieters has performed thousands of radiofrequency ablation procedures (VNUS Closure™), (Venefit™), ClosureFast™ procedures.
Fast improvement with ClosureFast™
The ClosureFast™ procedure is done under local anesthesia in the comfort of our Mount Pleasant facility. Recovery is immediate and patients note improvement in their symptoms almost as rapidly. This procedure will take less than an hour, which includes before treatment preparation, procedure time, and a very brief recovery period.
Minimal recovery time
Patients report no scarring, and minimal to no bruising following the procedure. Patients are encouraged to walk and to be more active rather than less active. Back to work or play in a day is typical for the vast majority of patients.
ClosureFast™ offers low risks
As with any medical procedure, despite the overall benefit, there are potential, though rare, risks. Associated complications are extremely rare and include infection, phlebitis, and transient numbness or tingling. Dr. Wieters will review these in detail at your consultation and answer all questions to your satisfaction.
Spider Vein Treatment
The Vein Center offers VeinGogh™ treatment for the elimination of spider veins located in the legs (thighs, knees, calves, ankles) as well as the face (nose, cheeks, chin, forehead).
How it works
The VeinGogh™ System generates a tiny, regulated, high-frequency current delivered to the vessel via a hair-thin probe. A “microburst” of energy selectively heats the vein, coagulating the blood and collapsing the vessel wall, which is quickly absorbed into the body. All of this is accomplished without affecting the outer layers of the skin, resulting in a quick return to normal daily activities.
Little to no downtime
The precise nature of the VeinGogh™ treatment limits the risk of over-treating, so there is little to no trauma to the skin. Following treatment, there will be some mild redness that usually lasts about 1-2 hours.
Depending mainly upon the size of the area, treatments can range from about a minute for minor lesions on the nose, and up to 20-25 minutes for a more extensive condition covering much of the face or legs.
You will see results immediately after VeinGogh™ treatment and continuous improvement over several weeks as the treated vessels are reabsorbed. Generally, only one treatment is necessary. However, depending on the specific condition, a follow-up treatment may be needed.
When feeder vessels or larger vessels deep beneath the surface are found to be the source of spider veins, sclerotherapy is utilized in conjunction with VeinGogh™ to eliminate the problem at its origin before addressing the aesthetic concerns of the more visible spider veins.
Sclerotherapy, as are all procedures which we perform, is an in-office treatment requiring no recovery or downtime following the procedure. Using a micro-needle, an FDA approved medication is safely and comfortably injected into the vein causing it to close and ultimately fade and disappear. There is little to no discomfort associated with sclerotherapy.
